The Kurdistan Innovation Institute (KII), under the leadership of Dr. Azad N. Zakhoyi, has initiated a significant and impactful project for the city of Zakho. The project involves the construction of several turbines at the weirs in the Zakho River. The purpose of these turbines is to generate hydroelectric power, which will eventually supply a substantial portion of the city’s energy needs. The project is also expected to bring numerous environmental benefits to the surrounding area.

Initially, one turbine will be installed, with additional turbines planned for the future phases which cover all the River weirs.

This project is supported and overseen by the Independent Administration of Zakho, led by Mr. Guhdar Shekho, which is organizing the necessary resources and activities.

To supervise the project, the College of Engineering at the University of Zakho has appointed three engineers: Dr. Shivan Abdulwahab, Eng. Abdulwahid J. Saleh, and Eng. Dilovan M. Haji. They will work alongside engineers from the Independent Administration and two engineers from Duhok University
